Maharana Udai Singh built this dam on Berach River, to ensure sufficient supply of water in his kingdom. The Dam at Udaisagar Lake drains about 479 sq km of the country and it covers an area of 10.5 sq kms. The storage capacity of the dam is 23.4 milli cubic meter. To handle the overflowing lake during severe rains, one channel has been connected to Berach River. Today, the water of Lake Udai Sagar is used in the zinc smelter close to Debari. The lake has plenty of water with the exception of lean years.
The bank of the Lake Udai Sagar is connected to history. In 1573, Kunwar Man Singh invited Maharana Pratap Singh on the banks of Udai Sagar Lake to talk about the surrendering terms and conditions to Akbar, the Mughal Emperor. Pratap Singh declined the invitation which led to the battle of Battle of Haldighati in 1576. Later, Maharana Raj Singh captured the army of Emperor Aurangzeb near the Udai Sagar Lake.
Thus, Lake Udai Sagar is one of the most beautiful lakes in Udaipur which will provide you with lots of entertainment and a peace of mind. People from all parts of the world come here to enjoy the calm waters of this lake.
