Lake Pichola is fed by a big stream from the western mountains. The lake is 1¼ mile wide and 2¼ miles long. Pichola is rounded on all sides by numerous palaces, dark hills, family mansions, marble temples and rows of bathing ghats which are packed by bathers at dawn. The Lake Pichola narrows down at some places. At these places the lake is traversed with ornamental bridges and their attractive arches. Another delighting spot on the lake is the Shikarbadi or the Khas Odi.
The boat ride in the clean blue waters of the Lake Pichola, in the background of setting sun is enough to entice anybody to come to it. Maharaja Udai Singh did not misestimate the panoramic beauty of the lake, which is rounded by beautiful hills, when he decided to expand it. Later, Maharaja Jagjit Singh added two beautiful island palaces in the middle of the lake, now known as Jag Niwas (famously known as the Lake Palace) and Jag Mandir that contributes in the glittering beauty of the lake. The most romantic holiday destination of the, the erstwhile summer residence of the royalty of Udaipur, Lake Palace is constructed of white marble. Now, it has been converted into a splendid heritage hotel with beautiful pavilions, beautifully decorated gardens and legends that always move with any Rajasthani marvel.
Thus, the Lake Pichola is one of the best destinations in Udaipur which you should visit while on a tour of Rajasthan.
