Jagdish Temple is among the famous temples of Udaipur which is frequently visited by devotees and tourists. It is situated in the City Palace complex of Udaipur. This is a beautiful temple constructed in the Indo-Aryan style of architecture. Maharana Jagat Singh, who ruled Udaipur during 1628 to 1653, built this temple in 1651. Jagdish Temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, considered to be the preserver of the Universe by the Hindus. You can get a clear view of the gateway of the temple at a distance of 150 meters.

Jagdish Temple is a three-storied architectural wonder comprises; beautifully carved pillars, painted walls, decorated ceilings and lush halls. 1.5 million rupees were spent in the construction of this structure. The spire of the main temple is about 79 feet high dominating the skyline of Udaipur. This shikhar (spire) is decorated with sculptures of elephants, dancers, musicians and horsemen thus making it truly a sight to lay eyes on.
While entering the temple you will be welcomed by two huge stone elephants at the point of entrance. On the immediate front of the temple, you will get to see a stone slab imprinted with the inscriptions with reference to Maharaja Jagat Singh. In order to get to the main shrine, you need to take a marble flight of 32 steps. At this place you will get to see a brass image of Garuda, a figure of half-eagle and half-man.
The magnificent architecture of Jagdish Temple boasts of a mandap (prayer hall), pyramidal spire and a porch. The first and second storey of the temple contains 50 pillars each. The intricate cuttings on the pillars provide an enduring sight to praise the remarkable beauty of this temple. Jagdish Temple was constructed keeping in mind the Hindu architectural science of 'Vastushstra'. Every year, people from all corners of the world visit this holy place of worship.
