Moti Mahal

Moti Mahal is a part of Meherangarh Fort. Moti Mahal which means Peral Palace was built by Maharaja Sur Singh who ruled Jodhpur during the last 20 years of the 16th century. This is the place where the kings accomplished all their royal duties and they also met their subjects in this Moti Mahal. The hall is very spacious. The large size of the audience hall in Moti Mahal indicates that this hall was as a public audience hall. The magnificent throne of the royal family of Jodhpur is now preserved in Moti mahal. The magnificent royal throne in Moti Mahal bears the mark of kingly elegance. The interior of the palace magnificent look. The entire building of Moti Mahal bears show of opulence.
The ceiling of the Moti Mahal are covered with glittering glasses and mirror. Moti Mahal is very well maintained and the surface of the ceiling and walls of this royal hall still glistens. The screens of the Moti Mahal are latticed and the very big balconies in Moti Mahal bear the mark of very high standard of architecture. This is also interesting about Moti Mahal is that this is the palace where the coronation ceremony of the kings of Jodhpur was celebrated. The tourists can also see the coronation seat made of red sandstone. This is the famous coronation seat of the Jodhpur royal family. All the kings of Jodhpur were crowned on this famous seat since the Rao Jodha. The coronation seat has its local name Sagar Choki.



Moti Mahal is also the repository of many costly furniture used by the royal family of Jodhpur. The notable collection in Moti Mahal include royal palanquins and special seats made of silver to seat on the elephants. The silver seats to seat on elephant are called howdahs in the native language of Rajasthan. One of the howdahs preserved in Moti Mahal was a gift from the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan to the ruler of Jodhpur Jaswant Singh.
