Jaisalmer is a famous spot of tourist attraction in the Indian state of Rajasthan and is famous among the tourists as The Golden City. The town stands on the long narrow strip of yellowish sandstone. Glamor of this city gets further enhancement by the grand Jaisalmer fort which can be imagined as a golden crown on the temples of a king. This fort is famous for containing within its premises a dazzling palace and several ornate Jain temples. Many of the houses and temples are finely sculptured. It lies in the heart of the Thar Desert and total number of people who are residing in this city are of about 78000. It is also the administrative headquarters of Jaisalmer District.

Because of its locational factor, Jaisalmer may appear to some of the tourists as remote and rustic, but it is filled with many artistic structures and monuments of local historical importance. The medieval mud fortress and walled township of Jaisalmer make it a popular tourist destination. The surrounding abandoned landscape represents a stark, austere beauty. Camel safaris through the nearby desert dunes are popular among the tourists from all parts of the world.
A few quiet days spent wandering around the town and the surrounding desert can be a wonderful way of unwinding from the chaos of larger Indian cities. Tourist accommodation is available inside the fort itself. However, eco-conscious tourists might consider staying outside the fort to avoid putting additional pressure on the fort's archaic sewage system.
