Old Delhi served as the capital for many emperors of yesteryears. Old Delhi, also known as Shahjahanadab was the capital of the great emperor Shahjahan. However very little is left of the old city. At present, the remains of the city includes Kashmiri Gate, Ajmeri Gate, Turkman Gate and Delhi gate. Near Delhi Gate is situated Feroz Shah Kotla, and Ashoka Pillar, which was brought from Meerut is also very close to it.

There are many places of tourist attraction in New Delhi. People come here from different parts of the country as well as abroad and prefer to go for a sight seeing in Old Delhi. One of the popular place of Old Delhi is Chandni Chowk. This is one of the main markets of Delhi. This market place, well known for wholesale business, is very crowded and congested. Chandni Chowk is located near the Red Fort, another place of historical importance in Old Delhi. This area has also got the Digamber Jain Temple which houses the Birds hospital. On one sine of Chandni Chowk is the Fatehpuri Mosque which was built by the wives of Shah Jahan. Just opposite the old police station or the Kotwali is situated, the Sunheri Masjid from where Nadir Shah ordered his troops to plunder the city of Delhi.
When you are in Old Delhi you would also like to have a visit to the Old Fort. It is believed that the Pandavas had built their capital, Indraprastha at the place where the old fort stands today. This fort, which is now in ruins, was the center of administration for many emperors. A new light & sound show is held by Delhi Tourism every evening.
Old Delhi will transport you back to history. With so many forts and monuments bearing historical evidence, you are certain to feel the charm of the place.
