The iluminating view of the tower in the evening reflects a mesmerizing effect and the view is worth capturing in your memory. This Victory Tower or Vijay Stambh is the embodiment of the story of Chittorgarh which is full with the stories of valor, tenacity and sacrifice. Chittorgarh was sacked thrice by the invaders and its defenders made the supreme sacrifice for the sake of thrir motherland. The Fort of Chittorgarh is a treasure trove of history and offers to the traveler an insight into the life of the Great Rajput rulers, who laid down their lives fighting a superior enemy instead of leading a life of submission under them.
After the defeat of the Rajputs against the forces of the invaders, inside the fort, women, including queen Padmini and the children, committed mass suicide or jauhar by immolating themselves on a huge pyre, rather than losing their honor at the hands of the enemy. In the middle of the 15th century, Chittorgarh gained eminence when the legendary Rajput ruler, Rana Kumbha, ruled it. He built the Vijay Stambh or the Victory Tower to memorialize his victory over Mahmud Khilji, the ruler of Malwa, in 1440.
The Victory Tower or Vijay Stambh remained the witness of the several historical upheavals. It has witnessed several blood shedding battles, the destruction and reconstruction of the Rajput community. Even after the pass of several centuries, this monument still stands and is acclaimed as one of the most recognized forms of architectural landmark in Rajasthan.
