It is close to the opening of the cave where Rani Padmini and the other women are believed to have performed jauhar. Other spots worth visiting are the Bhimtal Tank, Neelkanth Mahadev Temple, Meera Temple, Kumbha Shyam Temple, and Kalika Mata Temple dating back to the 8th century.
The Sammidheshwara Temple is famous for its architectural attraction, nostalgia and legends associated with this place. According to the legends, queen Padmini was one of the most beautiful ladies of the whole country in the contemporary times. Everything was going on fine until the Delhi Sultan Alauddin Khilji came to this place. He almost became enchanted by the exotic beauty of the queen. But he was only allowed to see the reflections of the queen from his palace. In order to possess the queen he attacked the Chittorgar Fort. Inspite of the tremendous fighting by the courageous Rajputs, the Fort came under the control of the sultan of Delhi. Queen Padmini and the other valiant Rajput women chose the path of self immolation, rather than losing their honor to the enemies.
The Sammidheshwara Temple carries the evidence of tremendous religious belief among the Rajputs. Architecturally this monument is still considered as one of the most highly acclaimed landmarks of the Rajputana craftsmanship.
