Rana Kumbha Palace

Rana Kumbha Palace is the largest palace within the premises of the Chittorgarh Fort. This fort is one of the most magnificent and grand exhibitor of the Rajput architecture and craftsmanship. Standing within the great scope of the fort, the Rana Kumbha Palace has definitely enhanced the glamour of this place to a much further level. Apart from the historical importance, this monument is considered by the tourists as well as by the historians as one of the major instance of architectural landmark of the Rajput tradition.
Named after the great Rajput ruler and warrior Maharana Kumbha, this palace is the witness of one of the most debated and tragic events in he history of Rajasthan. The Dehli sultan Ala-ud-din Khilji became enchanted with the beauty of Rani Padmini. In order to achieve her, he did sent several summons and later on threats to the king. But, the whole of Rajputana refused his proposal only because they considered the chastity of women as the embodiment of the pride of their race. Not only that, they also made it very clear that handing over Queen Padmini means their total submission before the alien forces. When the Sultan of Delhi did not find any other ways to persuade the Rajputs, he waged a prolonged battle against them. The defendants fought like gods with their limited resource and when all their hopes ended and they were standing on the verge of defeat, the beautiful queen Padmini as well as the other Rajput valiant women decided of Jauhar or self immolation in fire.



The Tripolia or the gateway to Rana Kumbha Palace which leads to an open courtyard, beneath it there were several small cellars where Queen Padmini as well as the other brave Rajput women committed jauhar in order to save their honor. This very historical legend has given the Rana Kumbha Palace a different dimension and which has also helped this place to retain its indomitable attraction before the tourists from all over the world.
