The palace is situated near the entrance of the Agra Fort, at the north of the Amar Singh Gate. This private residence of the Mughals lies at the end of a lawn within the Agra Fort. The gateway will take you to the courtyard which is surrounded by beautifully decorated halls. The blue dome reminds us of Persian work of art. Influence of Central Asian architectural patterns is evident in the long veranda and the columns situated here. The marble works, the carvings on pillars and stones, the decorated brackets, floral designs, have made it an exquisite piece of art. An interesting feature of Jahangir Mahal in Agra Fort is the intermingling of Muslim and Hindu sculpture especially that of Rajasthan and Gujrat. This bears an evidence to Akbar's relationship with the Rajputs.
The palace which was initially used by Akbar's Rajput wives specially Jodhabai later on came to be used by Akbar's son Jahangir and his beautiful wife Nur Jahan.
Later on Akbar's descendants replaced the red sandstones with white marbles.
Apart from Jahangir Mahal, there are some other specimens of Mughal art in Agra Fort like Diwan-i-am, Diwan-i-Khas, Sheesh Mahal, Musamman Burj, Moti Masjid, Nagina Masjid, Macchhi Bhawan, Hammam-i-shahi
Jahangir Mahal which is a remarkable example of blending of Mughal and Hindu architecture has remained as one of the notable sightseeings in Agra
