Buland Darwaza situated in Fatehpur Sikri near Agra is one of the most notable monuments built by the
Mughals. It was built by the greatest of the Mughal emperors, Akbar to commemorrate his victory over the king of Gujrat in the year 1573.

Buland Darwaza, which is about 175 feet high is one of the marvellous buildings in Fatehpur Sikri. The central archway serves as a gateway to Fatehpur Sikri. This 'High Door' as it is commonly known is built of red sandstones. This impressive sightseeing spot near Agra has the holy Quran inscribed on its front pillars. Akbar was known for his religious tolerance and this is evident in his praise of Jesus Christ which is inscribed on the pillars of Buland Darwaza. Akbar's conquest of Deccan has also been inscribed here in Persian.
Buland Darwaza or The Gate Of Magnificence is one of the remarkable examples of Mughal art and architecture in India. The red sandstones, white marbles, the grand arch, the carvings from Quran, the architectural patterns all reminds of the Islamic art.
